How To Earn

How to Earn Money from a Website

How to make money? is probably the question we have been asked the most over the years. A lot of things that will help you to make money have already been answered in the previous four sections of "How To". This being the last section, we will tell you what other things, however little they may be, you can do to squeeze as much cash as possible out of your website.

Advertising placement position, forum and blog subscriptions, website addons, and more things you may not have even thought of doing before that could earn even a little more cash from your website. Obviously it is unpractical to fill your website with advertisements as you are unlikely to get returning visitors if there is little information and mostly adverts.

Neutral Advertisements

Firstly we would suggest what we call a "neutral advertisement", an advertisement that seems on the surface to support something, whereas in reality you make money from it. A perfect example is FireFox (Click here for more information about Firefox). Firefox is becoming very widely used as a main internet browsing system nowadays and many people are transferring from Microsoft Internet Explorer to Firefox. It's becoming the "coolest" internet browser to use if you like.

To start advertising firefox on your website you would first need to sign up with adsense from google (it's free), then go to setup adsense > referrals > google products and you should find it there.

Advertising Placement

Advertising placement is crucial if you are going to make any sales. Sticking an advertisement on the bottom right hand of your website probably isn't going to bring you any sales. So where is the best position for how to earn money from a website. No not everywhere!

Firstly you should put a leading advertisement in a very visible position, at the top of your page after your header or logo would be best or anywhere near the top of the page, as it will be the first or second thing your visitor see's. But be careful do not use all of the top of your website for advertising. Remember this is your website, not the affiliate program and network you are advertising for!

You should put one or two more advertisements further down the page in a visible position as a reminder to the visitor of the offers of products or services from your affiliate program or network. It is a must that your content is more than advertisements, after all, the visitor has come to your website because they are interested in it. So if they see alot of content, the likelihood is they will come back again and maybe buy something, making more money for you.

Expanding your Website

Another thing you can do for how to earn money from a website is to expand it. You could expand it by adding a blog or a forum. A blog is a very important tool for promoting a website. Stay on topic when writing a blog, stick to the category your website relates to. Place some advertisements from your affiliate program or advertising network on your blog, and try to get links from blog directories and other peoples blogs with the same topic.

If you are unsure of how to design or start a blog there are professional tools which can help you to achieve a well deigned and effective blog.

You could also start a forum related to your website - This would guarantee that some visitors would return to your website and eventually spread the word of the website themselves to friends, family and others around the internet, all increasing the likelihood to earn more cash from your website.

Don't use Pop-Ups

One last note - we know many advertising networks and affiliate programs offer the use of pop-ups or under's on your website as a way for you to make some extra cash for yourself. We strongly advise that you do not use pop-ups. However tempting it may seem to earn that little bit extra cash it is not worth it in the long run. Do you ever look at a pop-up? Do you like them? Then what makes you think anybody else would? Pop-ups tend to annoy people. The reality is that if you use pop-ups on your site, you will lose visitors that may have returned to your site.

Ok well that's about it from us. We hope that this "How To" guide has been of use to you and hope that you now have the ability to make money yourself.
